WHAT WE BELIEVE
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
South Coogee Anglican Church is Christian, Evangelical and Anglican
As a Christian church, we worship the one true God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Trusting Jesus Christ as Saviour and following him as Lord, we confess the faith revealed in the Bible and set forth in the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds.
As an Evangelical church, we look to the Bible as God's authoritative word and our rule for faith and conduct. We are eager to proclaim the gospel of Christ's life, death, resurrection, ascension and return, trusting the Holy Spirit to transform lives through God's word.
As an Anglican church, we stand in the tradition of the Anglican Reformers and hold to the core truths of the Reformation, including salvation in Christ alone and justification by faith alone.
We affirm the Evangelical Alliance statement of faith
- The one true God who lives eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
- The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.
- The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.
- The dignity of all people, made male and female in God's image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin.
- The incarnation of God's eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.
- The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross, dying in our place, paying the price of sin and reconciling us with God.
- The bodily resurrection of Christ, his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.
- The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
- The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, and empowers discipleship.
- The Church, the body of Christ both local and universal, called to worship God and proclaim the gospel in justice and love.
- The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil God's purposes and establish a new heaven and new earth.
